Instrument Calibration Standards
There are two different types of instrument calibration standards: A Primary Standard and a Transfer Standard. A primary calibration standard measurement is made using fundamental components (mass, length, time, etc.). Primary calibration devices are typically used and maintained by the metrology or calibration laboratory within an organization. The laboratory can then either directly calibrate the production instruments or calibrate instruments that will be used as transfer standards for calibration of the production instruments.
A transfer standard is a calibration device that is traceable to a national laboratory or other recognized standards body. Transfer standards are used in both laboratory and production environments.
ISO 9000 Instrument Calibration Compliance
Routine instrument calibration, traceable to a national standard, is the only way to ensure process measurements are correct, documented and ISO-compliant. ISO compliance demands documentation, of which process instrument parameters are key aspects. Ensuring that those parameters are correct and traceable is therefore necessary to achieving ISO 9000 certification.
At Trucal International, we have been a leading A2LA accredited and ISO 9002 certified instrument calibration laboratory since 1992. Our calibration technicians have over 100 years of combined calibration service experience.
